Antenna switch 6-to-1 IND-I manual

This 6-to-1 antenna switch is QRO antenna switch for 6 antennas. Unused ports are connected to the ground. All six ports and middle IN/OUT are grounded without supply voltage too. Switch can handle more than 3kW for good SWR.

Example with BCD to 16

- need four (five) wires between controller and BCD to 16 converter
- GND, (+12V) and three control wires
- you can use GND and 3 control wires, where the control voltage is directly 13.8V = 4 control wires between converter and controller

Fan speed

IND-I versions are designed for installation inside or in a protective outdoor box outside. Higher ambient temperature and limited air circulation could cause the switch to heat up. Especially when using higher power or digital modes.

The switch offers two fan speeds. The default setting is slow speed.

If you will be using the switch with low power (up to 500W), the fan can be turned off. On the other hand, if you intend to use powers over 1.5 kW on digital modes, I recommend turning the fan on at full speed.

To change the speed, you need to open the switch and change the jumper settings.

You can change speed by the jumper J2. You can also disconnect jumper to switch the fan off.

Connection

RF switch is controlled by positive voltage. There is common GND - minus pole of the power supply. There is green screw terminal for external control wires. You need six wires for six ports and one (or more) wires for GND.

As a control wires, you can use CAT-5 copper cable. Preferably, you can use 6 wires for 6 ports and 2 wires to connect GND (negative pole of the power supply). CAT-5 copper cable can work up to 50 m+. Depends on quality and supply voltage. It would be good to keep the voltage at the switch terminals higher than 11.8 V DC.

TIP: If you do not have enough wires to control six ports, you can preferably use BCD converters. For more information see the pictures from Application.


Lightning protection

There is no simple defence against lightning. However, its effects can be mitigated or eliminated. Here are a few tips that are good to follow:

  • If you are using single-band antennas, install a coaxial stub with them. Its length will be Lambda/4, and don't forget the cable shortening factor. This cable will be short-circuited at the end and well connected to ground. The advantage is DC shorting - elimination of electrostatic voltage, and it also acts as a filter for 2, 4, etc. harmonics of the operating frequency.
  • When installing the switch on a lattice mast, it is best to place it inside the structure. Similarly, all cables should be routed inside the mast. Lightning is high-frequency (HF) energy, and the skin effect applies to it. Therefore, it spreads most outside the structure. The closer you are to the centre of the structure, the lower the voltage potential will be.
  • Don't forget to connect the ground screw of the control box. If you are using our controllers, they include surge protection. For them to function properly, it is necessary to ground the charge.
  • We recommend using additional protection at the point where cables enter the building and connecting them to a good grounding system. An example of such protection for control cables is HV8DC.
