Description

In our offer you can find two SDR (TRX) receivers. These are the TRX-DUO and the WEB-888. Both contain 16 bit ADCs and FPGA with CPU. Both units have extra fans, but no protection against mechanical failure or choking due to dust. If the receivers are used 24/7, for example as WEB-SDR or CW/RTTX/FT8 skimmers, they may be destroyed by overheating if the fan stops. In addition, the TRX-DUO has a very small fan, which is noisy and prone to jamming.

For these reasons, we offer an additional fan that can be placed on top of the SDR by simply sliding it on. It contains a powerful fan (40x40x20) with a filter. The filter can be removed, disassembled and cleaned. The module contains a small PCB with jumpers to adjust the fan speed (slow, medium, fast). Depending on the location (ambient temperature) it is possible to select from slow to full speed. Power is supplied by an external 12V power supply input. You can switch off the original fan (for TRX-DUO I recommend to remove the original one).

Speed

You can set three speed levels. The setting allows you to reduce the noise level if needed. If you have installed the SDR so that fan noise is not a problem, we recommend using the maximum speed (FAST).

If the SDR is installed in a cold environment, you can reduce the speed. You can check the temperature in the web-ser application or in linux itself. It is also easy to know by touch. The SDR should be cold, at most slightly lukewarm.

SLOW: jumper in left (1 + 2)
MEDIUM: jumper 2 + 3
FAST: jumper right (4 + 5)

Installation

Simply slide the fan module onto the SDR. Carefully measure and check the fit on the fan opening (especially on the TRX-DUO). Connect power and verify by touch that airflow is coming out of the holes on the SDR.
